finally the third release for red rooster records. like the second one, we are talking about a various artists e.p.: minimono (fabio della torre and ennio colacci) is an italian duo born in florence in 1997. in 2008 fabio and ennio founded their own label -bosconi records- where they released their first album in 2010. now minimono works with robsoul records, vibraphone and other very good label from all over the world. dj rou is parts of the project called homequest, a real crew of artists made in bologna, we can also find his music on robsoul jazz, bosconi extra virgin or flexi cuts. memoryman aka uovo is one of the famous pastaboys, he has a long story that starts with the label manocalda, he worked with a lot of big artists from the main house scene and he did a lot of records with the bests labels. d’arabia, class 1991, is the owner of red rooster records and this is the third release for him, surely not the last.

fouk are finally back on heist after their great ‘kill frenzy’ ep in 2014 and have taken mount liberation unlimited along for a remix. we’ve been waiting patiently for new material, challenging the guys to take the signature ‘fouk’ sound to the next level. fouk’s brilliance has been obvious on recent work for their own label outplay and razor ‘n tape, as well as their respective solo projects. we’ve kept a close connection, teaming up whenever possible for heist showcases, with highlights in amsterdam’s “claire” and paris’ “concrete-. seeing their work and enthusiasm made it abundantly clear that it would only be a matter of time before they’d show us what the next step would look -or better yet- sound like. anticipation ran high but boy, do fouk deliver. the excellent ‘with lasers’ ep still very much portrays their own style of loose, live percussion and many layers of funk, but they’ve expanded their vision and even toughened up a bit. their new taste for grit and an interest in the heavier side of funk is probably most evident on the opener ‘f3000′,,,,,, where a thunderous arpeggio is supported by distorted drums and lush cosmic synth stabs. title track ‘with lasers’ is more of a classic fouk track, combining a lovely walking disco bassline and their signature drum programming with… erm… lasers. lots of them. the b side ‘see you on the other side’ sets a different pace, carefully blending guitar licks, rhodesy chords and vocal chops into a lovely groove that feels just as carefree and improvised as it feels exciting. swedish synth nerds “mount liberation unlimited” ran with it and transformed it into a dreamy -pepe bradock goes balearic- track where airy echoed guitars take turns with some equally dreamy and evocative pads.

former half of the defunct pitch & hold duo under the banner of which he operated from 2006 to 2011, simon halsberghe steps up on brussels’ very own vlek with his debut solo ep as simon hold. first heard on vlek s 2016 mix for resident advisor as they were appointed label of the month by the highranking platform last autumn, maqam bruxelloise reflects the wideangle beauty and compelling diversity of the belgian capital and its throbbing heart, a city at the confluence of cultures and languages. across a finelylayered interplay of synthetic modulations and intricate polyrhythms, hold lays out a riveting kaleidoscope of patternwelded textures and prismatic synth motifs played and arranged accordingly to a contemporary interpretation of the traditional arabic maqam system of improvisation the track draws its title from. an ode to brussels allembracing effervescence. translating as -soft drone- or -pleasant noise-, the gritty dhajij doux then welcomes you into a more disquieting, bipolar audio scenario that evokes the reality of living -in a sometimes difficult and hostile city-. a curiously matching negative of the opener, in this that it taps into the same generous and plural matrix universe as main source of inspiration, but eventually opens on a more nuanced outcome, here hold clearly shows a further abrasive facet of his work: harsh and vibrant, the track may be replete with a leadheavy amalgam of sizzling bass and jagged drumwork thrown into the furnace, light and hope still manage threading their way through dark clouds and turbulence, slowly but surely turning this roughhewn stone into a truly haunting gem.

miss jools finally steps inside with her deep and groovy signature sound with her first ep on sol asylum with a remix from dana ruh. we instantly fell in love with “stepping inside,- this beautifully crafted atmospheric groover is destined to be a timeless gem. followed by dana ruh’s swingy reinterpretation that is finely crafted for the dance floor while still keeping it’s original sophistication. we are definitely not sorry to have this spaced out deep roller with a nice melodic surprise in the middle titled “sorry not sorry.” then wrapping this package beautifully together is “444 marjorie” a more classical approach to deep house but always with a modern twist with a dedication to someone very special to jools.

dark matter affects the speed, structure and evolution of everything, yet its nature remains a mystery we are yet to explore. this potent, affecting darkness is paralleled in dewalta s newest creation, a double 12“ vinyl release on amphia.
in quick succession to arcs-03, which boasted remixes by the mover, shifted and peder mannerfelt, cassegrain keep up the pressure with a new ep of originals arcs-04. returning to their tunnelling hypnotic trademark sound over three focused, club-ready trips, the arcing seas heads channel varied and irrepressible moods into each track. built on solid dancefloor founda-tions and rich in colourful, non-conventional sound design, they scan through tribal ritualism with a side shahmaran, moving to the pumping urgency of caracal and the rolling post-acid workout of vulpine arcs-04 is a straight-up dj-friendly 12inch, something that’s conveyed in the record’s more minimalist artwork.

next up on the docket for acid camp records is a record created by duo john tejada and justin maxwell. the pair came together to make acr iii with two things in mind: creating sounds that put a smile on their face while possessing as much character as possible. the opening track, -i ve got acid (on my brain)- is a mind-bending wavetable freakout, the likes of which tejada and maxwell have been striving to do for years. using a vintage ems vocoder to create an original vocal sample, this track is bright, playful, & vivacious. -the name rolls in- is layered in an acid playground of sounds. a rhythmic track with a potent 303 bass line, prominent percussion, and that infamous vocoder back at it to create a distinctly groovy track. -field notes-, is a composition of celestial arrangements that is completely beatless. carried through by tiers of sounds, filters, and noisier elements, this track lulls the listener into an alluring sonic dreamscape.

related artists red axes, lena willikens, khidja, autarkic, boot & tax key selling points il est vilaine arent from brittany, but they sure are tricksters. the francophiles among you might have caught on to the corny pun in their name (beating a certain presidential candidate to the punch all while turning the name of the pastoral ile-et-vilaine region into, literally, hes a nasty woman) but the real takeaway is that these born-and-bred parisians dont take themselves too seriously especially in an era in which there is much too much of that happening.

born in the hammersmith west london. youthstar was into music from a very young age, relocated to france at just 16, and quickly discovered the drum & bass scene in bordeaux. he performed a load of shows around france with his partner at that time, elisa do brasil from 2004 to 2008. then he linked up with the infamous dirtyphonics and toured with them across the world for 3 years. as a true entertainer, youthstar quickly came up in the scene and was nominated 4 years in a row (2012 – 2015) as “best new comer mc” & “best mc” at the “drum & bass arena awards” in london.
he has worked with renowned drum & bass and bass music artists from around the globe including andy c, netsky, nero, borgore, metrik, shimon and the list goes on!
youthstar joined camo & krooked in 2011 for their “cross the line” and “zeitgeist” tours. at the same time, he began to work closely with chinese man. invited for special shows at the beginning, they continued to work more and more closely together and has now become the official rapper/mc of the group.
